One thing you can say for the GOP Authoritarian party — they have a seemingly inexhaustible wellspring of “leaders” who seem to be devoid of any aspects of higher character. They are all different, as individuals, but they seem to share certain inalienable traits. And they are “on message” when it comes to what they are willing to say or do in front of a camera or a reporter. Call them rude, ignorant, opportunistic, clueless, aggressive, hypocritical, maybe even criminal. But you can’t call them innocent. Here are a few shining examples:
GOP Governor Nominee: Having Baby Could Be 'Healing' For Teen Rape Victims
As reported by Business Insider, Michigan GOP gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon, who is challenging incumbent Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, says that she does not support abortion being legal, even for child rape victims, suggesting that having the baby could be “healing.”
Dixon has received the endorsement of former President Donald Trump. She came under fire from Democrats last month after saying she would not support an abortion exception for a hypothetical 14-year-old who had been raped by an uncle.
Florida GOP Candidate Says He'd Have Sent The FBI Home 'In a Body Bag'
Granted, this person, like Tudor Dixon, is a candidate, not yet elected to office. He’s a Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Florida (quelle surprise!) and as reported by Newsweek, he said he would have sent FBI agents home "in a body bag" if they had raided his home the way they searched Mar-a-Lago, never mind the fact that the search was carried out by the book, from A to Z. This one’s name is Martin Hyde. He’s a businessman, and he made the remarks in a video posted to YouTube last Friday, as part of an apparent effort to defeat Republican Representative Vern Buchanan in the August 23 primary. Hyde was endorsed by Donald Trump, and apparently, that’s the green light to drop all pretense to civility or rule of law. A chip off the old dump…

New Photos Lift Lid On Donald Trump's Alleged Toilet Document Dump Habit
Speaking of old dumps, as reported by Huffington Post, newly released photos appear to lift the lid on allegations that Donald Trump ripped up documents and flushed papers down White House toilets. New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, who revealed earlier this year that White House staffers periodically found wadded papers clogging toilets during Trump’s presidency, on Monday tweeted photos she recently obtained showing ripped up papers bearing what looks like Trump’s distinctive handwriting. While these documents weren’t exactly wiped, “The point is about the destruction of records, which are supposed to be preserved under the Presidential Records Act, which is a Watergate-era creation,” Haberman said. Apparently, Trump had reason to want to either dispose of or take home many documents. We won’t be retrieving the toilet documents, but the results of the Mar-A-Lago search are likely to be revealed, probably sooner than later.
GOP Senator Ron Johnson says he won’t testify re Jan. 6th, as his involvement only ‘lasted seconds’
The Authoritarian party Senator from Wisconsin says he won’t testify before the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, arguing he had “virtually no involvement” in a scheme to appoint fake electors to overturn President Biden’s 2020 election win. Nevertheless, that virtual non-involvement included a text message exchange shared by the Jan. 6 committee, showing a Johnson aide telling a Pence aide that “Johnson needs to hand something” to the vice president, clarifying the “something” as an “alternate slate of electors for Michigan and Wisconsin.” To which Pence’s aide responded, “Do not give that to him.” Johnson has defended the January 6th rioters as “peaceful,” despite the fact that millions of people watched the violence on television with their own eyes. It’s not hard to imagine why Johnson may not want to testify under oath.
And ONE actual Profile in Courage
Rusty Bowers was the GOP speaker of Arizona’s house of representatives when he stood up to the former president’s demand that he overturn the election result. As described in this excellent interview in the Guardian, Bowers was ousted from his post in the recent AZ primary election, as punishment by Trump acolytes who over the past two years have gained control of Arizona’s Republican party. They wanted revenge for the powerful testimony Bowers gave in June to the January 6 hearings in which he revealed the pressure he was put under to overturn Arizona’s election result. “This is a very Arizonan story. But it is also an American story that carries an ominous warning for the entire nation.” Examples like Bowers are hard to come by. This interview allows us to look past policies and politics and recognize the vital importance of personal integrity, which stands tall, even in the worst of circumstances…
